Paper Dioramas made with Mixed Media

These dioramas are mostly made of wood painted with water soluble oil.

My Town

I started this diorama on the … 10th of August! It took 3 months! Not full time obviously but still, many, many hours a week. Overall, I’m quite pleased, it’s better than I thought it’d be, even though I had to restrict myself to just a few houses because of the lack of space on my walls.  Play Video Ideally, it would have been better without the camera shakes, but it’s not easy crawling on the bed while filming (especially with the dogs in the middle). Maybe, I’ll take some pictures in the daylight but I kind of like the evening light. But for the moment, I think I’ll just sit in

First Snow

Damn! My diorama is not finished yet but I realise it is too big! Unfortunately, I can’t add the Liminal Orchestra to the right as it was planned, because there is the lamp there. And I did take the measurements several times! The diorama as it is, is still way too big!The orchestra and I spoke about it, they agreed to set their little island at the beginning of the strip on the condition I add more details around them. They also said there was no hurry, I can take my time. It was nice of them. I had to re-warp. The first colored warp for my silver grey sweater didn’t work out.

Baked Apples and Hot Chocolate

September’s breathtaking enchantments on Lofoten. The snowy town is progressing, but not as fast as I would like, since the job that puts food on the table is taking most of my time. But … day off today! Actually the only one weekly and this until the end of September (too bad September is by far my favourite month in the year). Hot chocolate and baked apples to help me cope with the fact that my single day off is flying away… Play Video Play Video

Books, Candles and Hot Chocolate

My fairy tale girls… Well, Lucy is much harder to take into picture, she’s too busy inspecting her kingdom. Pixie, my little bear, always demands my attention, even on a walk. She’s definitively a mama’s girl, this one. Play Video Unfortunately, the town will be a small village because I just don’t have enough space on my walls (they’re all covered with shelves!). I’m limited to 71 cm in length and 40 in height. But I’m going to try to cram in as many details as possible. How I love making these little dioramas, they enchant my soul… Going to add so many things, wrought iron signs, Victorian street lamps and frosted

Paints deserve little boxes

This morning, while searching for books about Mesopotamia, I came across this so-called Ram in a Thicket. It’s dated from 2600 BC and there actually was a couple of them, discovered in a grave in the Royal Cemetery of Ur in Irak. Archeologists say it’s a reference to an Old Testament’s story (the sacrifice of the ram) but that would spoil everything for me! I think it’s a very cheeky ram with folded wings and he eats from the Cosmic Tree (it does look to me like stars, not roses!). Needless to say… I’m smitten. How could archeologists who don’t have an artistic bone possibly understand works of art? Art’s mostly been commissioned

A Table

Got myself a little table for my ceramic and watercolour workshop. A bigger table wouldn’t fit… anywhere! But it’s very cosy, so that would do. No more water spill on the bed…When people ask me if I have a studio, I laugh…But it looks better with some proper mess! I’m glad I don’t have to clean up. Such peace… It’s almost night outside. No dusk, no blue hour since mid-april. Hello Night. Good night, Night. So nice to see you again. I’m almost tempted to stay up late. I love doing collage. Endless possibilities… I can add many things as I go along. This beginning of a house will be one of

The Witch Diorama

This is a diorama I made for a dear friend of mine. I used watercolours on mixed media paper. What took the longest was the making of her Magical Grimoire. Even with a very good instruction book about pop-ups, it took me a while to work it out.  I absolutely loved doing that, I could spend my days cutting bits and painting them, but it’s a serious strain on the hands. Maybe, I’ll consider buying a cutting machine one day, but not for now. In the meantime, this is great fun!

A Troll Hat

This is a Troll hat I made for Halloween, it’s basically a paper diorama representing a landscape since trolls are a personification of Nature. It’s made of paper, painted with watercolours and there are 4 electric tealights. I don’t think I’ll be able to run with it, but that’s allright, since trolls are supposed to be slow.
