Seaside Town

I am in Les Sables d’Olonne in France, visiting my parents and eating too much. It’s hard to avoid when being in France. There aren’t so many temptations in Norway (but that’s not why I moved there!). Today, I walked to the town center, a good one hour and a half walk, and came across a beautiful shop where everything is a delight for my artist’s eyes. I bought two tin boxes, Sencha tea and bath soaps. It was pretty hard to restrain myself, but not as hard as in a art and craft supplies shop. I walked further along and I was thinking that this beautiful shop could be in Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley when I actually came across a Harry Potter shop, that was funny. I came back along the quay and had a lunch of fresh langoustine, tarama, and a Black Forest cake while watching the dogs running like crazy on the huge beach at my parent’s bay window.

The view from my parents’ place inspired me this painting a few years ago. I especially like the evening when windows and street lamps light up and their reflections on the breaking waves.

Because of the worrisome Covid situation and the loss of efficiency of the vaccine I received, I decided to cancel all the trips to my friends’ places I had planned. Tickets were booked but I cannot take the risk to contaminate my parents (whom I had refrained from visiting for two years). It sucks BIG TIME! But I’m sure I’m not the only one in this situation, wanting to protect the very fragile people whom we cherish…

Thank you, dear Jo! I had forgotten that you were not allowed out of the country, I thought that no one was allowed in, but of course, it makes sense. I hope the situation will improve but at the moment, it doesn’t look great. Hugs and take care, dear Jo
