Welcome to my Inner World. I am a French self-taught artist, and these past seventeen years I have made Norway my home. Moving to the Lofoten islands was the greatest present I ever made to myself and the Arctic landscapes are indeed a true treat for any artist’s eyes. I live with my British soulmate,… Continue Reading

First Woven Fabric on my Rigid Heddle Loom

It didn’t take long to make, perhaps 7 hours. It’s 80 cm by 130 cm and I used different kind of yarns, different materials, elasticity and thickness. This is why it turned out … bulgy. Lucy still likes it, but I wouldn’t leave it in her care for too long. I’m not sure how to proceed for my next weaving, how to incorporate different yarns with different tensions. And I can’t seem to find information about this. I guess I’ll have to experiment and tread carefully. The fabric is really pleasant to the touch, very soft and warm.

Fabrics Tell Stories

I’m in heaven. The warp threads didn’t (yet) break, the tension seems right and the texture is so soft, delightful to the touch. It took me one hour to weave this (about 15 cm in length on a width of 74 cm), it’s fast enough for me, and so much fun to combine all these beautiful yarns:

Second Attempt

It took me 5 hours (after a first failed attempt) to warp my loom. My back’s broken. I think I’ll do it in a different way next time, this was most uncomfortable. BUT it’s beautiful already! I hope I won’t get any nasty surprises. I chose grey colors, surprisingly, for my first weaving. I love wearing brown and grey, the pilgrim colors, they remind me of earth and rock.

Tomorrow, I’ll weave my first row!

Weaving at last!

I thought I’d take a pause before doing my first warping. I’m a bit intimidated. I received my Kromski Harp rigid heddle loom in kit form and it has been a nightmare to assemble. BUT I got help from Lucy:

Well, I lied. She was actually in the way and managed to gnaw one of the cords. But she is so adorable…

We went to a new place nearby today. Lucy in particular LOVES exploring new places. She actually refuses to go to places she’s become bored with. She just sits down or turns back. Luckily I now have a car so I can indulge in her special requests. And yes, I too, love exploring new places.
