Warping

A few days without anything on this loom, that’s unbearable! I wanted to warp something new but I realised my last fabric is short of a sleeve to make a sweater, so I have to weave the same again, but it’s ok. So far, I’ve experimented a bit with warping and this is my favourite method. I warp loosely around a chair (I don’t have a long table, I don’t even have two small tables, and nor would I have the space):

This is what the warp looks like around the chair:

There’s just a bit of tension, just enough so that the yarn doesn’t drag on the floor. And then I hold the end of the loops (or my sweetheart does since winding up the warp requires an assistant):

And I place a pre-cut table cloth under the warp as I wind up, so that layers don’t stick together. It doesn’t buckle and it’s one continuous length only.

The whole process takes me two hours but I’m using the whole width of the loom, 80 cm. No back pain. The first time, it took me … 5 hours. I was so broken physically I felt the urge to light a cigarette (I stopped 6 years ago). I didn’t of course. So… I’m finally getting the hang of it!

Meanwhile, autumn is magical… This is the place of my daily walks. It’s like entering a fairy tale.
