I love cursed characters. When I was a child I loved operas, especially by Wagner. The first opera I ever saw was the Flying Dutchman and it left a deep mark on me. When I recently saw the Promise by Kaige Chen, I had trouble putting up with some truly bad acting BUT fell instantly in love with Snow Wolf. He reminded me of another character who ‘s fascinated me for a long while, the Sandman. The two kind of merged and I ended up with this character above. The bell is also a reference to the Abhorsen’s bells in the Old Kingdom trilogy by Garth Nix which I’ve read three times
This is one of the very few instances where I used some photographic references: all the plant species represented here actually exist in tropical areas. There is a slight “Myst game” influence here, along with the Indian River from Pirates of the Caribbean. The rocks are kind of inspired by the ones you find around the Seychelles (which I haven’t visited yet). Since I moved in the Arctic, my dreams often take place in tropical areas. Bathing in these green waters is very regenerating. It’s as if the Other World (which was previously nordic/celtic for me) had shifted in the opposite direction, which makes perfect sense since it’s “other” in nature. And
Music is a huge part of my life. Music is pure magic, how something so subjective can completely blow your mind remains a mystery. Like love. Music is the ultimate divine language. This is my interpretation of the Fatas, Norns or Parques. These ones don’t spin but play the symphony of our lives, our moods, and the shiny stuff we’re made of. I had the hardest time trying to finish this painting because of all these tiny houses. Every time I finish painting this sort of city, I think “never again”, but then I can’t resist the temptation for too long. I never learn… [peekaboo_link name=”bar”]Traduction ici [/peekaboo_link] [peekaboo_content name=”bar”] J’ai en fait eu un mal fou à finir cette peinture à cause de toutes ces maisons minuscules. This is actually my second attempt at digital painting. This is my version of Christmas. I have a deep distrust of any anthropocentric religion. I am also an anti-specist. Actually, I’m quite misanthropic and I have no problem with that. Animals are GOD. Animals are just… AWESOME! By the way, Yule, for those who don’t know, is an old pagan celebration. It coincides with the winter solstice which is around the 21st of December. It was so huge that in the 4th century the church decreed that the birth of Christ should be celebrated around that time so as to supplant the old pagan customs. I really loved playing in an unusual way with composition here. This creates a dreamlike atmosphere. Something is happening here but I’m not allowed to speak about it. It would spoil it all. Shhhh… Chhhh… [/peekaboo_content]
